You’re not alone! A lot of people can struggle with putting themselves first, but it’s one of the best things you can do for your health and wellbeing.
It can be hard to put yourself first without feeling guilty, because there’s the fear of letting others down and the belief that we need to help everyone else before ourselves to be considered a “good person”.
But if you’re not taking time to care for yourself, it’s actually harder to help others effectively and can lead to burnout.
So how can you start to put yourself first?
Keep reading to find out!
Set boundaries
You don’t have to say yes to everyone or always be available to people. Setting boundaries and learning to say no actually benefits both you and the people in your life. They are important for creating healthy relationships.
This could be as simple as telling friends that you wont respond to messages after a certain time at night to allow you to wind down before bed.
Practice self care
Try to incorporate self care into your routine, even just five minutes will make a difference.
This could be anything you enjoy, such as going for a walk, doing a quick meditation or watching your favourite show.
Check in with yourself
Take some time each day to quickly check in with how you’re feeling and what your current needs are.
This can help you make decisions that support you, such as whether or not to say no to an event if you’re feeling burnt out.
In the end, a commitment to putting yourself first, is a commitment to prioritising yourself (as cheesy as that may sound).
I know reaching out for help is the first, and hardest step towards becoming the healthiest version of you. However, I am here to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you.
